Satellite Industry Association Statement Supporting Plans to Renew America’s Space Transportation Leadership

Washington, D.C., August 21st, 2026 – The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) releases the following statement regarding the National Security Presidential Memorandum to Renew American Space Transportation Leadership.

The Satellite Industry Association applauds the Administration for releasing the updated National Space Transportation Policy, which recognizes that reliable, affordable, and resilient access to space is fundamental to America’s economic prosperity, technological leadership, and national security. The policy also recognizes the unprecedented and extraordinary growth of the U.S. commercial space industry.

Achieving the policy’s goals will require a whole-of-government effort to expand launch and reentry infrastructure, modernize the national airspace system, streamline regulatory processes, and ensure that the spectrum resources necessary to support increasingly sophisticated space transportation operations are available.

“America’s satellite industry depends on reliable and resilient access to space, and this policy recognizes that access to space is a national economic and security priority,” said Tom Stroup, president of the Satellite Industry Association. “SIA strongly supports the Administration’s commitment to expanding launch capacity, improving infrastructure, streamlining regulation, and ensuring access to spectrum. These are essential steps toward maintaining U.S. leadership in the increasingly competitive global space economy.”
