Satellite Industry Association Announces Intrado as its Newest Member

Washington, D.C., March 2, 2026 – The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) today announced that Intrado Life & Safety, Inc. (Intrado) has joined the Association as its newest Member. Founded over 47 years ago, Intrado is a leading global provider of emergency communications services across North America and nineteen additional countries – including 911 emergency services across the United States.

As a provider of 911 systems and services for satellite providers, Intrado has firsthand experience with the power of Supplemental Coverage from Space (“SCS”) to supplement wireless emergency connectivity and response in rural and remote areas that have no other means of reaching 911. This includes satellite-enabled emergency messaging or text-to-9-1-1 capability and the ability for users to reach first responders, even when they are located far beyond the coverage of terrestrial-based mobile networks.

“SIA is very pleased to welcome emergency communications company Intrado as the newest addition to the Association,” said Tom Stroup, president of the Satellite Industry Association. “With hurricanes causing an estimated 2200 American casualties in the past two decades and devastating wildfires hitting LA County and Maui in just the past three years, the need for reliable and ubiquitous satellite-based emergency response communications has never been higher. Intrado’s expanding satellite emergency communications portfolio and expertise make them an ideal addition to SIA and the Association, and its members look forward to working with them as our newest affiliate member.”

“This is a defining moment for satellite communications in the public safety space,’ said Joe Custer, Intrado CEO. “Where once satellite connectivity was the domain of the military, the wealthy, or large-scale commercial interests, we are seeing an unparalleled democratization of the technology, resulting in the ability to reach un-served and underserved, remote, or disaster-stricken areas. Intrado is proud to be the first 911 provider in the U.S. to partner with satellite and terrestrial wireless operators to help this promising SCS technology reach its full potential.”

Affiliate membership in SIA is open to satellite companies as well as supporting entities that advocate for and promote the domestic commercial satellite industry. SIA affiliate members receive several benefits, including attendance at SIA’s Annual Association Meeting, participation in all open SIA meetings and most events plus SIA member discounts to industry events.
