Satellite Industry Association Releases Statement Regarding Russian Anti-Satellite Test

Washington, D.C., November 19, 2021 – The Satellite Industry Association today issued the following statement regarding the Russian anti-satellite test that took place earlier this week.

“SIA and its members are committed to space sustainability.  SIA strongly disapproves of the intentional creation of orbital debris by the November 15, 2021 Russian anti-satellite test which creates undue risk for everyone in this globally shared space environment. The satellite industry looks forward to continuing to work with governments around the world to address this event and other space sustainability issues in the near term.”

SIA has released of a set of Principles of Space Safety, drafted to help minimize the intentional creation of orbital debris and protect freedom of use and long-term access to space by ensuring safe flight operations for satellites, human spacecraft and other space missions. A copy of the principles is available HERE.
