Satellite Industry Association Applauds Nomination of Anna Gomez as FCC Commissioner and Renomination of Commisoners Brendan Carr and Geoffrey Starks

Washington, D.C., May 22, 2023 – The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) today applauded the White House announcement that U.S. President Joe Biden intends to nominate Anna Gomez as a new commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and renominate sitting FCC Commissioners Brendan Carr and Geoffrey Starks.

Ms. Gomez is the leader of the U.S. delegation for this year’s World Radiotelecommunication Conference (WRC-23). She is the former Deputy Administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and previously served as Deputy Chief of the International Bureau at the FCC. Commissioner Brendan Carr was initially confirmed in 2018 and Commissioner Geoffrey Starks was first confirmed in early 2019.

“SIA and its members applaud the nomination of Anna Gomez as the new Commissioner of the FCC and the renomination of Commissioners Brendan Carr and Geoffrey Starks,” said Tom Stroup, president of the Satellite Industry Association. “Ms. Gomez is a long-time public servant and brings with her a wealth of policy expertise regarding telecommunications and international satellite spectrum management.

“SIA also applauds Commissioners Carr and Starks on their renominations. We look forward to continuing to work with them and the entire FCC leadership and commend them for recognizing the expanding importance of satellites and the space industry. SIA strongly encourages the U.S. Senate to rapidly confirm each of today’s nominees.”
