Satellite Industry Association Applauds FCC and Chairman Carr Following Adoption of Satellite Spectrum Abundance Order

Washington, D.C., September 30, 2026 – The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) today commended the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Chairman Brendan Carr after the Commission voted to unlock more than 1,000 MHz of spectrum in the 12 GHz and 42 GHz bands for a range of connectivity services, including even faster satellite broadband. The FCC voted to adopt the Satellite Spectrum Abundance Report and Order during the Commission’s September Open Meeting held earlier today in Washington, DC.
“SIA commends the FCC for voting to adopt the Satellite Spectrum Abundance Order, making more than 1,000 MHz of additional spectrum available for satellite broadband, mobility connectivity and satellite network operations,” said Tom Stroup, president of the Satellite Industry Association. “SIA further applauds Chairman Brendan Carr and the Commission leadership for continuing to recognize the increasing strategic importance of the commercial satellite industry and the essential services it provides.
“Expanding access to spectrum for satellite services is essential to advancing U.S. innovation, strengthening technological competitiveness, and maintaining America’s leadership in the rapidly growing global space economy. SIA looks forward to continuing to work with the Commission and its leaders on the FCC’s additional spectrum proposals that will further support the next generation of innovative satellite and space-based services.”
