Washington, D.C., December 11, 2023 – The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) today announced that law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld LLP (Akin) is the newest affiliate member of SIA. Akin was established in 1945 and its largest office is located in Washington, DC.
In late September, the Firm announced that it was making a critical investment in its capacity to continue to serve the rapidly expanding and diversifying commercial space industry by appointing Dr. Michael Mineiro to Akin’s telecom, media and technology (TMT) practice as a senior counsel. With both U.S. Government and commercial satellite industry experience, Dr. Mineiro will advise launch companies, satellite operators, space-based service providers and other technology-focused investors to address wide-ranging regulatory and compliance issues.
“SIA is pleased to welcome Akin as the newest member of the Association,” said Tom Stroup, president of the Satellite Industry Association. “The Firm’s long history of serving space industry clients, their expanded focus on the commercial space industry and their space policy, regulatory and TMT expertise make them an ideal addition to SIA. We look forward to working with Akin as the satellite industry continues its unprecedented expansion.”
Affiliate membership in SIA is open to satellite companies as well as supporting entities that advocate and promote the domestic commercial satellite industry. SIA Affiliate Members receive a number of benefits including attendance at SIA’s Annual Association Meeting, participation in all open SIA meetings and most events (excluding the SIA Leadership Dinner) and SIA Member discounts to industry events.
