Satellite Industry Association Applauds Appointment of Chirag Parikh as Executive Secretary of National Space Council
Washington, D.C., August 03, 2021 – The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) today released a statement regarding the appointment of Chirag Parikh as the new Executive Secretary of the National Space Council.
“On behalf of SIA and its members, I would like to congratulate Chirag Parikh on being appointed as the new Executive Secretary of the National Space Council,” said Tom Stroup, president of the Satellite Industry Association. “His previous service as Director of Space Policy in the National Security Council combined with his executive experience at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency make him an ideal choice to assist Vice President Harris to oversee the day to day operations of the Council. Thanks to innovation and decreased costs, the commercial satellite industry is growing at a tremendous pace and we applaud the Administration’s appointment of Mr. Parikh. SIA and its members look forward to working with the Vice President, Mr. Parikh and the entire Council on vital issues such as maintaining a sustainable and safe space environment while promoting cybersecurity, climate change, STEM and other initiatives that are vital for the commercial satellite industry.”
Earlier this year, SIA applauded the decision of the Administration of U.S. President Joseph Biden to keep the National Space Council which is tasked to assist the President regarding national space policy and strategy. The Council was originally established by Executive Order in 1989 and was revived in 2017. During the previous Administration, the Council was chaired by Vice President Pence and included a number of senior federal government officials.
