May 2020: Impacts on Satellite Constellations – Optical Astronomy

On May 26, SIA partnered with the American Astronomical Society (AAS) and hosted a webinar, “Impacts on Satellite Constellations on Optical Astronomy.”

The webinar included a panel of speakers including Patricia Cooper, SpaceX; Tom Stroup, SIA; Megan Donahue, AAS; Pat Seitzer, University of Michigan; Therese Jones, SIA; and Tony Tyson, LSST. The speakers discussed the challenges posed to observatories by satellite constellations, how best to engage with all parties to find solutions, and the roles of the observatories and the private-sector in mitigating impacts.
