Satellite Industry Association Statement Commending FCC on its Plans to Expand Direct-to-Device Satellite Connectivity

The Satellite Industry Association releases the following statement regarding the release by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) titled, “Chairman Carr Proposes to Expand Direct-to-Device (D2D) Satellite Broadband Connectivity to Unlicensed Wireless Devices”.

“SIA commends FCC Chairman Carr and his leadership team regarding the Commission’s proposal to further expand D2D satellite services,” said Tom Stroup, president of the Satellite Industry Association. “We applaud the FCC’s continued recognition of the expanding importance of the commercial satellite industry and the growing wave of technological innovation and investment in satellite D2D technology. The proposed new proceeding would help expedite new ubiquitous technologies that can expand emergency supplemental satellite coverage and further bridge the digital divide for unconnected Americans. SIA looks forward to continuing to work with the FCC to ensure that the U.S. satellite industry continues to lead the world in satellite technology and innovation.”
