ANNUAL AGENDA
Through its members, Board of Directors and working groups, SIA pursues a comprehensive annual agenda of policy, regulatory and trade advocacy on behalf of the commercial satellite industry.
Promote the Benefits of the Satellite Industry to the FCC, Congress, the Administration, and First Responders
Promote the U.S. Government’s Utilization of Satellites, Services and Ground Equipment to the Maximum Practical Extent
Pursue Spectrum Management Policies that Enable Satellite Innovation and Investment, and Minimize Harmful Interference
Advocate Improvements to the U.S. Export Licensing Regime for Commercial Communications Satellites, Components and Ground Equipment
SIA objectives are to preserve and protect satellite spectrum from harmful interference and excessive fees through:
Opposing the imposition of additional taxes or fees on spectrum use
Encouraging reform of the Universal Service Fund
Supporting the continued harmonization of international spectrum allocations
Monitoring the impact of unlicensed devices
Help the U.S. Government become a smarter purchaser of satellite capacity, systems, and ground equipment by:
Supporting multi-year SATCOM leasing
Pre-positioning and pre-purchasing SATCOM equipment and capacity
Encouraging reform of DoD satellite system procurement regulations
Supporting an operationally responsive space force
Provide First Responders at the Federal, state, and local level with the equipment, services, and information they need by:
Pre-positioning and pre-purchasing SATCOM equipment and capacity
Increasing satellite services and equipment funding for First Responders
Providing education and outreach to First Repsonders and Law Enforcemnt
Credentialing satellite technicians as emergency responders
Rationalize U.S. export licensing procedures while continuing to protect national security:
Providing education and outreach to Congress and the Administration
Supporting process improvements at the Departments of State and Defense
Advocating for increased funding and staffing of Government licensing activities
Remove market access barriers that preclude or interfere with the provision of satellite services throughout the world by:
Promoting market access for the provision of satellite services
Monitoring foreign regulatory rulemakings pertaining to satellite service
Supporting the USTR, WTO and State Department on international trade negotiations
Educating foreign regulators and lawmakers on the impact of commercial satellite communications. |
